Description

This is a much needed gift for the boater or yachtsmen as a display piece!
This vintage sextant was made in Japan for the International Nautical Company during the 1970's and includes the wooden box with key. The sextant consists of a black coated metal with a brass arc that marks the various degrees. This sextant measures roughly 8" x 6.5" x 4" inches. It is made out of metal, brass, glass and plastic. Some corrosion noticeable on the tools as shown. The brass shows tarnish in some areas as shown.
The wood box measures 9.5” x 8.25” x 5”.
This sextant has been used by a first rate yachtsman, my father, who one summer was determined to master its use. After poring through books, much practice, precarious balance on rolling deck, decided “jotting” and checking of timepieces, furrowed brows, and studious comparing of tables in the tiniest font imaginable, he cheerfully declared that our 30 foot Florida-based Tartan sailboat was located “either in the middle of the Indian Ocean, or in downtown Cleveland.”
Your mileage may vary.
This sextant would look great in your boat/yacht or home decor as a great conversation piece!
Please be aware that this item is used vintage and over 40 years old, thus the condition and functionality is AS IS. Ample photos provided.
