Scale model of Cockburn Barrow & Machine Company 50 inch punching machine circa early 1890's. Cockburn Barrow & Machine was a heavy equipment manufacturer based out of New Jersey USA.
    "Punching Machine with 50-Inch Gap
This machine will punch a 4-inch hole through 1-inch steel in the center of a circle of a radius of 50 inches. The principal feature of the machine, which is extremely simple in construction, consists in the two methods of driving provided. The machine is driven by the band fly wheel A, the shaft of which extends through the housing and operates the punch. For light work requiring small power and quick strokes of the punch this method of driving is employed. The slow motion of the punch is used when the full capacity of the machine is required. Power is in this case transmitted from the driving shaft through the pinion B, gear C, pinion D and gear E, which then operates the punch. This machine weighs 35 tons and was built by the Cockburn Barrow & Machine Company of Jersey City, N.J., for W.B. Pollock & Co. of Youngstown, Ohio." -The Iron Age, May 31, 1894. p.1035.
