You are buying a
circa 1890 PRE McKinley Trade Tariff (federal legislation that mandated pottery porcelain coming in to this country had to be marked as to country of origin) porcelain covered powder dish. This piece is 4 1/4” wide x 2 1/2” tall in a maroon color with a transfer decorated scene of a Victorian lady and cherub. The rims on the lid and base are gold decorated.
The
condition is very good
no chips, no cracks, just very light gold edge wear. There are some firing marks on the inside lid (little dimples) and in the making and common for early porcelain.
