    Description

    Antique Plath sextant in original wooden box
    There are 2 separate scopes on the front left of the box.  One does seem to have the glass missing in it.
    There also is a 7 1/4" long scope in the bottom of the box.
    There is a 5" x 8" card thumbtacked to the inside lid of the box that is written in German.  It has the date 1.6.1926 on it along with some numbers that are probably specs.
    This is the original wooden box for it, with sliding wooden bars to hold parts in place.  The box measures 11 1/4" x 11 3/4" x 5 1/2" when closed.  There is a piece of wood missing on one side.  See pictures. Two brass hooks hold the box closed.  I do not have the key for it.  The box is marked 4620.
    There were some white specks on the front of the wooden box that I thought were paint, but they must have been spider droppings as they wiped off!
    I know nothing of the origin or use of this sextant.  My neighbor's mother had it in her house for many years and it is time to have someone else enjoy it.
