The Nippon Art Collection takes traditional Japanese and auspicious subjects known the world over,
such as “Mt. Fuji”, “Hagoita (battledore)”, and “Origami”, and has them drawn on a black lacquered background in Hira Maki-e (Flat Maki-e).
The shiny black of the lacquer, along with the overflowing vibrancy from each work makes it a sight to behold.
＜about Namiki＞
Founded in 1918 as Namiki Seisakusho (currently a pilot), it begins manufacturing and selling fountain pens. After that, in partnership with dunhill, it entered the European market under the "Dunhill Namiki" brand.
The outstanding technology of the lacquer fountain pen was highly evaluated because it was exported to (Cannot be sold to EU and EEA countries) and the United States.
＜Maki-e technique＞
The Maki-e fountain pen is a technology that was created to increase the strength of "ebonite," which was the mainstream body material, because it deteriorates over time.
Namiki Seisakusho, which devised the Maki-e fountain pen, invited Gonroku Matsuda, a lacquer artist who later became a Living National Treasure, to create a number of lacquer designs.
