    Description

    This box most likely held an antique instrument. It is from a New Bedford collection from which I have already listed a "Moody" surveyor's compass, but it was not the occupant of this box. I have also listed several early hand-cast harpoons and whaling medallions from same collection. See inside box photos to guess at what it once held. Perhaps you have a suitable tenant? Swing clasps have unique lobster type locking design. The box lock is intact but I have no key.
