    Description

Namiki Yukari Asia Series The Seahorse Limited Edition Fountain Pen
Deep amongst the dancing sea grass and radiant coral, in the temperate and tropical waters of the ocean exists the Seahorse. Amidst their threatened habitats live over 30 species worldwide. Namiki is proud to present the Limited Edition Seahorse Fountain Pen as a tribute to this mysterious creature of the sea.
Over the years, many cultures have associated the Seahorse with mythology. In truth, the Seahorse is alive and thrives in shallow, coastal waters around the world. A long, coiled tail and peculiar looking horse-like head are its defining characteristics. Its eyes move independently from one another providing the ability to keenly watch for live prey. A paradox of nature, the Seahorse is the only animal in which the male becomes pregnant, giving birth to hundreds of fully formed, self-sufficient young at one time. Highly sought after for medicinal uses in Asia, the demand for Seahorses far exceeds the supply. Uses include treating respiratory conditions and general pain and lethargy. In addition, because the shape of a seahorse resembles the human embryo, many Japanese women carry dried seahorses as good luck charms, which are said to help ensure a safe and easy birth.
Each hand-painted Limited Edition Seahorse pen has been colorfully decorated by master Maki-e artist Masato Sato. Just as the Seahorse changes its color according to its environment, so too does the pen in the reflection of natural light. The Seahorse image is depicted using the "Raden" lacquering technique of applying mother-of-pearl. The seaweed around the Seahorse is created using the Togidashi (burnished) maki-e technique, by which rubbing away the top layer of lacquer reveals the vivid colors beneath. The design skillfully portrays the Seahorse with its tail attached to algae on the seabed drifting gently in the fluid water.
Only 300 pens have been produced worldwide making each Seahorse fountain pen owner truly privileged. A superior piston converter and precision 18-karat gold nib guarantee a pleasure filled writing experience. Attractively displayed in a classic gift box, The Limited Edition Seahorse fountain pen from Namiki is truly a masterpiece that will be embraced by fine pen collectors worldwide.
The pen is new and unused. The set comes with the pen, presentation box, outer box, certificate of authenticity, and information card. The images are of the actual pen and contents.
