    Description

Lietz Co. U.S. Navy Vintage Brass Inclinometer
Consignor's description: Pilothouse inclinometer made by Adolph Lietz Co. of San Francisco between 1900 and 1910. This inclinometer was used on a U.S.Navy ship in the period before and during World War I. The back of this fine instrument is marked U.S.Navy with an inventory number.
    A. Lietz was a German immigrant who came to the US in the 1800s and was a maker of the highest quality surveying and nautical instruments.
This fine clinometer is fully functional and in excellent working condition. The 8-1/2" glass face has no cracks or damage of any kind.
The large knob at the 6 o'clock position locks the instrument in a stationary position. The smaller knob to the right is a dampener. The knob in the center of the dial is used to reset the tilt hands. The case is thick and heavy at 2-1/4" and made of brass and copper, measuring 9-1/4" diameter. All three attachment points remain and are in excellent condition. The Lietz clinometer was known as the highest grade clinometer available for nautical use and the best of its genre.
