These jars usually have a lot of paint flecks and wear on the finish. This pretty powder box is in Excellent Condition with minimal wear to the paint finish in one place. THE ONLY WEAR WE CAN FIND is on the back of the mandolin at the very tip of the handle. There is some paint wear there and a very flat area that may be slightly chipped. The paint is worn off in this area. Please see our second photo for a close-up view. If you are wanting to add an example of this type of powder jar with a flashed, fired on finish it is doubtful you will find a nicer one than this.

    We are offering for sale a really pretty L.E. Smith Minstrel powder jar. We have known for years that these powder jars are found with fired on colors but have never found one worthy of listing on the internet. These jars usually have a lot of paint flecks and wear on the finish. This pretty powder box is in

    f you are wanting to add an example of this type of powder jar with a flashed, fired on finish it is doubtful you will find a nicer one than this. This lovely jar was made circa the 1930s.
    "Minstrel" Powder Jar:
    The finial of this powder jar is a minstrel in the sitting position playing a mandolin. This is an L. E. Smith powder jar. There are two different shapes of lids used with this jar. The one style has an octagonal lid, while the other has a round lid.  The base has a recessed horizontal band in the center section intersected by four evenly spaced recessed vertical panels. The "Minstrel" jar has been found in crystal, crystal with flashed colors, green satin, green transparent, pink satin and pink transparent.
