    "Battling or
    Kissing Elephants" Powder Jar
    This L. E. Smith Glass Company 4.25" diameter powder jar has a finial that consists of two elephants with joined upraised trunks. A weak area exists at the trunk junction and many of these jars are found with cracks in this area. Collectors refer to this jar by two names - "Kissing Elephants" and "Battling Elephants." In addition to the pink satin color shown, other known colors include a light transparent green, transparent pink, crystal and crystal flashed in light pink, light green or light blue and green satin. The bottom has a recessed horizontal center panel which is intersected by four evenly spaced vertical recessed panels. Three shapes of lids with five different finials are found on this bottom. Lid shapes include: (a) a smooth round type, (b) an octagonal style and (c) a round shape with four vertical panels that match the style of the bottom. The shape of the lid with this finial is octagonal.
