Description
The fixed-angle sextant capable of measuring a few small angles with great precision. It is ideal as an emergency navigation device because of it’s size and ruggedness. It has no moving parts and is pre-calibrated. This calibration is permanently fixed and will not require additional instrument error corrections in your calculations. The main difference in operation of a fixed-angle sextant versus a standard sextant is that with a standard sextant, you move an armature to bring the image down to the horizon while with this sextant, you must wait for an image of the sun to descend to the horizon. In both cases, we must have the sun on the horizon in order to note the angle.
WARNING! As a precaution, do not look through the sextant directly at the sun. The three bright images of the sun are also too bright to look at without some sort of eye protection. The lower, dimmer images can usually be viewed with standard sun glasses or filters.
Included in the kit:
2 Fixed-angle sextants: one wide angle and one narrow angle
1 Button compass
2 Pico Compasses
Solar viewing film for observing the true sun on the horizon
2 Polarized film filters
Accessories
High Visibility Water Resistant Container
The buyer will need to verify calibration before using this device in an emergency.
