1970 KING MASTER MODEL 1065-S "SUPER 20 SILVER SONIC" - MEDIUM LARGE BORE (.458"), PROFESSIONAL Bb CORNET WITH SOLID STERLING SILVER BELL AND LEAD PIPE, AND ORIGINAL LACQUER FINISH IN PRISTINE CONDITION
I have been playing horns for 64 years...collecting and restoring vintage trumpets and cornets, producing custom finishes, and building custom horns for 53 years.  Over the decades I amassed a vast trumpet/ cornet collection.  During the past few years I have thinned out the herd and continue to do so.
All my horns are gig ready...they have been completely disassembled, cleaned, valves are hand lapped and precision adjusted & aligned with new corks & felts when necessary, all slide tubes are hand lapped and polished, and then the horn is re-assembled and play tested.  Lastly, the trumpet is disinfected and boxed in order to provide a Covid free purchase.

This cornet is straight without dents nor solder repairs of any nature whatsoever.   It has seen VERY little play time in its history, thus 99% of its original lacquer is still intact, and the valves are still bright and shiny with factory spec compression.
The horn comes complete with its original case in near mint condition, along with the original King 7M mouthpiece.
H.N. White - King made the finest cornets on the market and led the way in innovation.  Most models were designed by H. N. White, including the Master model cornet which set the industry standard.  The Master model cornet is also known as the "under slung" cornet because of it's unusual entry point into the valves.
The list of H. N. White cornet players is impressive including: Red Allen, Herbert Clark, "Wild" Bill Davison, Dr. Frank Simon, and the great Del Staigers.
Without a doubt what makes H. N. White instruments unique is their use of Sterling Silver Bells. Some time between 1925 and 1928, The H. N. White Company introduced the "Silver Tone" Sterling Bells option to Liberty Trumpets, Master Cornets, Clarinets, and the entire Trombone line of instruments. As stated in the 1928 complete catalog, "Sterling Silver Bell produces better tone, being clearer, richer, and more resonant, with a more pleasing quality".  A short time after World War Two (1949-1951), "Silversonic" replaced "Silver Tone", but the quality of tone remained the same.
This 1065-S is a medium weight 2 lb. - 8.4 oz. cornet that will accommodate virtually any music style and acoustic venue.  The cornet has a clear and resonant tone that is easily controlled...its sound is rich and pure (thanks to the solid silver bell and lead pipe that will never crack a note no matter how hard the horn is pushed), centered and focused.  It
produces a resonant warm tone with excellent projection.
The two-piece silver bell allows for a fast attack and an easy upper register.
It is a free and open blowing horn and loves to be piloted in the stratosphere where it develops a sophisticated brighter edge with complex overtones.
This cornet has great intonation...the low register is not flat, and is very resonant.  The 5th harmonic is great, and so is the upper register intonation.  Slots are superb.
Responsive and flexible, the 1065-S makes an excellent choice as a cornet that blends well in a section, and doesn't over power the other horns.
Mechanically, this cornet is in like new condition both outside and inside, with lightning fast valves that are bright and shiny and have factory spec compression.  All slides operate with silky smoothness.  Cosmetically, the cornet is in pristine condition with the following minor issues:  The lacquer and gold plating around the edge of the bell rim has been chipped...I assume the original owner set the horn on the floor without using a stand.  There is a tiny ding on the bell stem 1/2" above the "Sterling" stamp.  Lastly, there are tiny scratches in the lacquer scattered throughout the cornet, but considering it's over a half century old, I think the photos speak to its superb condition.
King was the only manufacturer to lacquer their silver bells.  This prevented tarnish until the lacquer started to fail (as it is a temporary medium) and then ugly spots of tarnish would start to appear.  I prefer no lacquer on silver as it is much easier to maintain.  I tend to be overly critical and as accurate as possible when describing my horns, so that no one receives any "surprises".  So, bid with confidence as I think you'll find my feedback speaks for itself.
